Environmental Drivers of Gross Primary Production and Evapotranspiration at a Robinia pseudoacacia L. Restoration Plantation

چکیده

Black locust is the second-most-often planted tree worldwide, particularly for restoration plantations, but drought dieback and growth declines are being reported. Currently, we lack information on these ecosystems’ water carbon fluxes, in relation to climatic variability. Here, employed eddy covariance determine gross primary production (GPP) evapotranspiration (ET) of a black post-mining plantation NW Greece over c. 2.5 years. Additionally, applied Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) study effects key environmental drivers (vapour pressure deficit—VPD, soil content—SWC, solar radiation—Rg enhanced vegetation index—EVI) GPP ET during summer months. Both diurnally seasonally, increased with increasing Rg, SWC EVI, was saturated after certain thresholds (Rg: 400 W m−2, SWC: 25%, EVI: 0.65). In contrast, declined strongly VPD. Overall, maintained at high level, cost ET, which constantly raised radiation not responsive VPD, indicating non-conservative use. At present, plantations exhibit favourable productivity no stress, VPD context climate change may, ultimately, negatively impact ecosystems.

Chemical composition and natural durability of juvenile and mature heartwood of Robinia pseudoacacia L.

The aim of this study was to characterize the properties of juvenile and mature heartwood of Robinia pseudoacacia L. (black locust). The content, the composition, and subcellular localization of heartwood extractives were studied in 14 old-grown trees from forest sites in Germany and Hungary, as well as in 16 younger trees of four clone types. Heartwood extractives (methanol and acetone extract...

The Silviculture of Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) in Hungary: a Review

Black locust was introduced in Hungary between 1710 and 1720. The first large black locust forests were established at the beginning of the 18th century on the Great Hungarian Plain stabilizing the windblown sandy soil. In the country, black locust occupied 37.000 ha in 1885, 109.000 ha in 1911, 186.000 ha in 1938 and 415.000 ha in 2009. At present, it is the most widely planted species in Hung...

Physiological responses of Celtis caucasica L. and Robinia pseudoacacia L. to the cadmium and lead stresses

Afforestation of contaminated areas is considered as a possible strategy for reduction of contaminations. In the present study, the effects of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) were investigated on chlorophyll fluorescence parameters (Fv/Fm, Fo, and Fm), photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, b, and total chlorophyll), and proline in one-year-old seedlings of Celtis caucasica and Robinia pseudoacacia...
